Thousand Canker Disease

Thousand Cankers Disease is caused by the fungal pathogen Geosmithia morbida and vectored by the walnut twig beetle, Pityophthorus juglandis.

Western Component

(team members: Bostock, Seybold)

  • Evaluate response in elite rootstock material and assessment of walnut twig beetle host selection behavior.

Eastern Component

(team members: Coggeshall, Schlarbaum)

  • Evaluate germplasm collections of J. nigra in Missouri and J. cinerea from different states.

Expected Outcome

  • Identification of Juglans germplasm with superior resistance to colonization by walnut twig beetle and infection by G. morbida.
